There's no way to sugarcoat it. It was a rough week. It started out with one of the best Monday's we've had in months. It was the kind of day you dream of when you layout your routine. It may not have lasted long but I least I know it's possible.
One Tuesday, Elora woke us with a screaming fit in the wee hours of the morning. It was one of those horrifying moments as a mom where you don't have the slightest clue what to do. We finally figured out that she was in intense neck pain. We nearly found ourselves on the way to the ER but I was able to ease her pain enough to wait it out for bit.
What followed next was a series of appointments with her physical therapist, rhuematologist and Family D.O. There has been so little sleep here that I'm not sure I could recount it accurately. The good news is that it doesn't appear to be connected to her arthritis and her care team was able to get her out of pain rather quickly. The puzzler is that it is extremely rare for a child this young to have muscles issues in the neck.
It has been one of those weeks where the limits of my patience are tested. While I had triumphant moments where I extended grace and compassion, there were a number of moments where I failed. I'm so thankful that God's mercies are new every morning. I'm also glad that my children readily accept my apologies.
The unusual week continued today with a round of storms that rocked the entire Midwest. A major hailstorm hit our area when we should have been leaving for Elora's dance class. I decided not to risk it. The worst of the storm system hit later in the afternoon. I spent the majority of the day calming Elora and William, who are both terrified of storms, and packing for what seemed like an inevitable trip to the basement. I felt very fortunate that Matt works from home on Fridays. As it turns out, his office had to seek shelter so I think he was glad to be here as well.
We somehow missed the brunt of the storm. In fact, we never had to head for the basement after all. I feel extremely blessed. It was a very tragic day for our state as well as those nearby. Several towns here have been exceptionally damaged. Sadly, the death toll for Indiana alone stands at 14 but it will certainly grow.
Please pray for the families who have been affected by the storms this week. My heart breaks for them. If you know your children are safe and warm at this very moment, consider yourself blessed.
And suddenly a disrupted schedule and sore neck don't seem like that big of deal...
If you or someone you know has been affected by the storms this week, please let me know what you/they need.
